Let’s take a look around the league in the past week. Delaware improved to 11-0 in conference play with a victory over a threatening James Madison squad on Sunday. The Dukes dropped to 9-2 and are now tied with Drexel for second place headed into this week. Old Dominion and Hofstra follow just behind with conference marks of 7-4.

It’s conference time! Ten out of the 11 CAA schools kicked off their conference schedules on Sunday and Drexel, Hofstra, James Madison, Northeastern and Old Dominion earned victories in the first conference outings of the year on Jan. 6.

It may be a holiday to some people, but the CAA Communications staff was still hard at work filing stats, updating notes and selecting CAA Basketball Weekly honors. Last week was a pretty exciting week for CAA Women’s Hoops and below you can read all about it.

Games are becoming sparse as final exams are being administered and so the schedule hasn’t been as full as the past few weeks, but there are still plenty of games being played. CAA teams have compiled a 42-39 overall mark and Old Dominion (6-1) and Georgia State (5-1) are sitting atop the conference standings with just one loss apiece.

The numbers are climbing… in the right direction… CAA teams have posted a 38-29 overall record against non-conference foes thus far this season. The CAA teams have challenged themselves with competition as they have played 15 games against the “big six” conferences.

Another tough week in the books for CAA Women’s Hoops. The league is now 16-17 in non-conference play heading into the Thanksgiving weekend, with a 2-8 record against teams in the Big Six (a.k.a. the six conferences that were ranked above the CAA in the final RPI ranking in 2011-12).

All 11 teams have at least a game under completed in their schedule and everyone has the day off from an actual game, which gave us time to congratulate William & Mary’s Emily Correal and Drexel’s Hollie Mershon for being named CAA Women’s Basketball Players of the Week and Hofstra’s Asia Jackson for being selected as CAA Women’s Hoop Rookie of the Week for their stellar play after the first weekend of competition.

November 9th has come and gone. We all prepared a lot for the start of the new basketball season and for some teams, the first game is under their belt, but for others that first game is still to come. Last night was full of excitement in the CAA.
