Two-time CAA Tournament champion Delaware upset No. 2 Drexel to advance to Saturday’s semifinals. Sophomore forward Hannah Jardine credited her team’s defense but the three timely treys by the sophomore was a lift for the Blue Hens (15-16), who meet the winner of Friday’s final quarterfinal between Hofstra and William and Mary.
Afterward Jardine shared some thoughts.
Talk about your hot hand today (3-of-5 behind the arc).
“When you’re shooting the 3 — there’s so many spots on the floor you can shoot from. Once you knock one down, it gives you the confidence to keep shooting.”
You’re from Canada?
“Newfoundland. It’s pretty cool, as far on the east coast of Canada as possible. It’s really small, and we don’t have any other Division I athletes really.”
How did you get to Delaware?
“I played with our national team for two summers and Coach (Tina) Martin saw me playing there.”
What can you find in Newfoundland that you can’t find in Newark, Del.?
“We’re right by the ocean, so we have great fish and chips.”
What can you find in Newark, Del., that you can’t find in Newfoundland?
“We don’t have Chick Fil A”
How do the Blue Hens chill?
“We have a lot of good dancers and singers on our team. Everybody loves Beyonce.”
Who does the best impression of Coach Martin?
“My roommate on the road, Alexis Sears. She can do impressions of everybody on our team, anybody on our team.”
So about your major. How tough is that?
“Mechanical engineering? I really liked math and physics in high school and my dad’s a civil engineer. I try to focus really hard on my schoolwork.”
