College of Charleston’s Bolden brings a crowd

Mar 14, 2014, 8:39 PM EST

All those folks in maroon behind the College of Charleston bench at The Show Place Arena belong to freshman Breanna Bolden from nearby Edgewater, Md.

Welcome to the CAA, folks. The Cougars, conference newcomers, are playing Towson in their first-ever CAA Tournament game.

That’s mom Yolanda Beverly, aunts Kathy Hodges and Crissy Viner; there’s sister Gabrielle and brother Carnell; there’s grandmothers and godmothers; there’s coaches from South River High School in Edgewater; there’s little girl cousins with pompons; and there’s the scene stealer, cousin Kingsley, 5 months. His baby boy cheeks are almost as big as the oversized Cougars shirt that looks like a gown.

All together says mom, “There’s about 30 of us. It’s exciting. Oh, I’m about to lose my voice. . . .”

That’s OK. Breanna has plenty of vocal support.
