Saturday’s Highlights: Sweet 16, Elite 8

Mar 28, 2013, 3:38 PM EDT

A number of games will be played this weekend, but there are at least two games #CAAHoops fans are going want to follow – Delaware in the NCAA Sweet 16 game against Kentucky and James Madison hosting Florida in the Elite Eight of the WNIT postseason event. Drexel, which will tip tonight against Bowling Green in the Sweet 16 of the WNIT, may also advance to play in the Elite Eight this weekend.

Elena Delle Donne, the senior all-star of the Blue Hens, is one of ESPN’s “Three-To-See” stars, joining Baylor’s Brittany Griner and Notre Dame’s Skylar Diggins. Delle Donne, and the Blue Hens, will play on Saturday, while Griner and Diggins will battle on the big screen on Sunday. The sixth-seeded Blue Hens will tip at 12:04 pm on ESPN in Bridgeport, Conn., and will take on No. 2 Kentucky in the first of two games at the regional site. Read about the Sweet 16 Saturday on, featuring the Blue Hens of Delaware. This is UD’s second straight appearance in the NCAA, but first trip to the Sweet 16, as they fell to Kansas a year ago in the second round.

James Madison advances to the WNIT Elite Eight for the second straight season with a 77-61 home victory over Fordham on Wednesday evening. The Dukes will host Florida on Saturday afternoon at 4 pm. The Dukes are led by Tarik Hislop this season as she has poured in 16.1 points per game, while Kirby Burkholder follows with 14.9 ppg. Burkholder leads the team on the glass with 9.1 rebounds per outing and has also snatched a team-best 54 steals. JMU is now 16-0 at home in NCAA (4-0) and WNIT (12-0) games. The Dukes will look to extend that record on Saturday and you can watch the game on MadiZone for FREE after signing up for a user name. This is JMU’s sixth trip to the WNIT and fell to Oklahoma State in last year’s championship game.
