Talking with Northeastern coach Daynia La-Force

Oct 16, 2012, 5:21 PM EDT

Northeastern returns three starters, including All-CAA first teamer Deanna Kerkhof, who averaged 14.4 ppg last season.

A word to describe your team.

Are you excited about having so much offense back?

It’s going to be great, having more than 60 percent of our offense back, which will give me time to work on our freshmen. That’s key for us to be successful. We’re going to need the numbers. We’re going to need the consistent play. Having a core group helps me to focus on the freshmen.

What will we see from Deanna this season?

She’s very aggressive this season, even more aggressive than she has been in the past. I see that from her in practice. She’s more vocal. She not only leads by example, but she’s over there showing the younger kids what to do.

How do you improve on your road record?

Leadership and knowing what it takes to perform on someone else’s home court. Focus will help us, too.

What freshmen have stood out?

We have two who I think will play early. Onia Webb, our post player from the Bronx, has picked up our philosophy rather quickly. And at the point guard position, Tiffany Montagne has a lot of skills and will help us with our dribble drive.

Something fun you did during the offseason.

Vacation. I went to Martha’s Vineyard, Newport, R.I., and I went to Italy in the spring. That was with my son’s AAU team.
