Tina Martin: Rock star

Oct 18, 2011, 4:01 PM EST

It’s almost noon and Tina Martin has been the media darling, and why not? Martin’s Blue Hens are picked to win their first CAA title and then there’s the matter of this kid on her team named Elena Delle Donne.

“Just a second,” Martin said, pecking away on her Blackberry. “I’m texting Elena right now….”

While EDD is the the name everybody knows, Martin is tickled about the return of starting point guard Kayla Miller, who missed last season with surgery to repair a herniated disk.

“Having her back is a great relief to me,” Martin said.

And having everybody healthy — Sarah Acker is the lone exception as she is recovering from hip surgery — should make the Blue Hens a power, not just in the CAA, but nationally as well.

Martin isn’t looking any further ahead than today’s practice. “Preseason No. 1,” she said. “I told our kids nobody gets a ring for that.”
