2011-12 Northeastern Huskies Prospectus

Oct 17, 2011, 10:05 PM EDT

NORTHEASTERN
Coach
: Daynia LaForce-Mann

Last year: 8-22, 3-15 CAA, lost to Delaware in CAA Tournament first round

Who’s missing: Forward Mia Mayberry (4.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg), guard/forward Tiffany Crews (2.2 rpg)

What’s new: Four freshmen, including two from Canada’s Dawson College –forward Genevieve Gaboriault and guard Amencie Mercer.

The headliners: Junior Deanna Kerkhof (11.0 ppg) and seniors Kashaia Cannon (10.7 ppg) and Jamie Conroy (10.0 ppg). In addition, Rutgers 6-4 transfer Christine Huber (8.4 ppg, 5.5 rpg) provides punch inside.

Would like to see more from: Senior Dani Iervolino (5.5 ppg) – at least on the court. Her leadership and off-court scholastic abilities have never been in question.

Welcome back: A full complement of players. For various reasons, Northeastern had to compete shorthanded for much of 2010-11.

The challenge: To return to the ranks of the competitive in the CAA.

We like their chances if: The newcomers can adapt quickly and supplement the veteran first stringers.

Sexy non-conference matchup: At UNLV, Nov. 26. Given that this tournament will pit the Huskies against either powerful Georgia or mighty Georgetown the following day, one might call this trip to Vegas is a bit of a gamble.
